I grew vegetables this year for the first time.  One of the first things to come out and say hello were the sugar snap peas, a family favorite.  There was something so gentle and strong and reaching out about this particular pea tendril.  I had read about the biochemistry of pea tendrils in a great book about how plants develop called Life Processes of Plants by Arthur Galston, so I appreciated the things I couldn't even see...but what really struck me about watching all of the pea tendrils was how when they grabbed the support it was like a newborn's hand grasping a pinky placed against its palm. So small and sure.
