Frog Skipping

series of round splashmarks on the surface of water leading away from viewer

At the 11th second into the 12th second, a frog skips across the water surface 4 times, leaving spots just like a flat stone was skipped! If you download and freeze it, and just move back and forth across that one second you can see the dots form. That's what I did to get the still photo that goes with this post.

Frogs and Toad

large frog head sticking out of water

We met this frog recently, and the toad much earlier in the summer, but I liked both their faces. Am also adding a tadpole, which was swimming around when we saw the Big Frog.

Raindrop and frog

Raindrop forms crater-like shape in water; frog head nearby

We have been taking a walk in the woods near our neighborhood most days. Today it was raining and there were lots of great textures. I was captivated by the frogs - will post more of those separately - but really liked this crater-like shape in the upper left as a raindrop hit the water, and the echoes of that as other shapes were mid- or post-formation elsewhere. Also note the frog head to the lower right, poking out of the water.

Yellow fuzzy caterpillar with spikes

Yellow fuzzy caterpillar with black spikes

I had never seen this kind of caterpillar before, so it really struck me when it showed up on our hike in NH. It is an American Dagger Moth Caterpillar, it turns out. This video shows it moving - at the end it is quite undulating!

Grayscale polka dot fabric?

Raindrops on cement

I loved this pattern on our front steps as rain just started. It looked like a painting or grayscale polka dotted fabric.
